Surfing Central Florida

Florida is better know for its retirees than its surfing, but don’t write it off. When the right storm moves up the Atlantic basin or into the Gulf of Mexico, its time to strap the board onto the roof and head out to the beach.

Our favorite breaks along the Gulf coast include 880/Clearwater Beach, Sand Key, Indian Rocks Beach and the Redington Breakwater (all in Pinellas County). They don’t break often (it all depends on Gulf storms and the winds), but when they do, we’re off!

Our favorite Florida East coast spots run north to south from Cape Canaveral to Sebastian Inlet. Too many spots to list, the mentionable ones include 1st and 2nd Lights, Cocoa Beach Pier, RC’s, Ocean Avenue, Bronsteel Park and Sebastian Inlet. The Atlantic breaks much more often then the Gulf and given the right storm deep off shore in the Atlantic, a good swell can roll in for great fun.
